Tezpur scribes oppose citizenship Bill

 TEZPUR, May 23 - The media fraternity here on Tuesday staged a sit-in demonstration programme to register its protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (2016) near Court Chariali here.

Members of the All Assam Journalists’ Union, Rangapara Press Club, Balipara Press Club and Nadwar Press Club participated in the hour-long programme. At the end, the protesters took out a rally to the office of the Deputy Commissioner and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner that was addressed to the Joint Parliamentary Committee.

Opposing the proposed Bill, senior journalist Anjan Goswami, Pankaj Kumar Nath, Pulak Kumar Deka, Manoj Kumar Saikia and Pranab Kumar Das mentioned that if the Bill is implemented the indigenous people of the region would lose their identity.
