|Monthly stipend Protest by differently-abled|
GUWAHATI, May 21 - Hundreds of differently-abled persons under the aegis of the Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam, today staged an hour-long protest at the office of New Guwahati Treasury here.
The PSSA alleged that due to the apathy of a few officials of the Treasury office, thousands of persons with disability from Assam are deprived of the monthly stipend given under the Deen Dayal Divyangjan Pension Scheme. The scheme was officially inaugurated by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on January 10. In the first phase, the scheme covered 1,11,115 beneficiaries and 24,617 in the second phase.
At the end of the last fiscal, the Social Welfare department had sanctioned Rs 29,54,16,000 for the scheme. But, due to alleged negligence of some officials, the fund remains pending.
