Coal-laden trucks seized
Correspondent
JORABAT, May 19 - Two coal-laden trailers were seized last night in an operation conducted by Jorabat police.

The trailers, bearing registration numbers UP 22AT 1223 and UP22T 8413, were transporting coal illegally from Meghalaya’s Byrnihat area towards Uttar Pradesh.

The drivers of both the trucks – Md Rashid and Md Arif, both residents of Uttar Pradesh – have been arrested. The value of the coal is estimated to be around Rs 10 lakh.

Meanwhile, questioning the role of Jorabat police, a concerned section of the greater Dimoria region said the police seize only a truck or two just for the sake of it and let other coal-laden trucks go scot free, which indicates the existence of a tacit understanding between the coal owners and the police.
