NPP demands repair of NH-62

TURA, May 19 - National People’s Party (NPP) has demanded immediate repair of the National Highway 62.

In a complaint to Deputy Commissioner of South Garo Hills, Shella N Marak, the party sought immediate repair of the road considering its importance.

“The negligence of the SGH region by the Mukul Sangma Government is condemnable. The condition of the NH 62 is such that vehicular movement is not possible. Currently it takes about five-six hours to reach Baghmara from Tura, just 105 km away,” said Rakkam Sangma, an NPP leader from Rongara.

Saying that NH 62 is the lifeline for the people of SGH, former MLA Satto Marak felt that the only way to reach Baghmara safely is by use of helicopter.

“Many serious patients, not to mention pregnant women have had the worst of experience going through the NH as it is an absolute nightmare,” he added.
