|Workshop on elimination of bonded labour|
GUWAHATI, May 19 - A daylong workshop on elimination of bonded labour was organised jointly by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and Government of Assam today at the Assam Administrative Staff College here. Issues of inter-state migrant workers and child labour were also discussed during the workshop.
The states of Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland including Assam participated in the workshop. Assam Labour Welfare Minister Pallab Lochan Das presided over the inaugural meeting held prior to the workshop. Justice D Murugesan, Member, NHRC delivered the inaugural speech, while KV Eapan, Additional Chief Secretary, Assam also spoke on the occasion.
A presentation on the International Labour Organisation (ILO) was made by Ms Panudda Boonpala, Country Director, ILO and a presentation on bonded labour was made by Dr Onkar Sharma, Regional Labour Commissioner, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India.
