Govt aid for kidney transplant
Staff reporter
GUWAHATI, May 19 – Patients who are going to have kidney transplant or those who already had the operation in this month can now avail of Rs 1 lakh aid from the State government. This was announced by Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday.

Addressing mediapersons here, Sarma said that this scheme for kidney patients has come into effect from May 1 and this scheme is going to cover BPL as well as APL families.

As per the scheme, the government is not going to directly hand over the money to the patients going to have kidney transplant but to the hospital where the patient would be operated upon.

And those who already underwent the transplant in any place will be given the money in draft within 15 days from the time of application.

Patients who want to avail of this aid will have to get recommendation of the head of the Department of Nephrology, Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
