Tribune scribes’ memo to CM|
GUWAHATI, May 18 - A delegation of journalists from the Assam Tribune Group of Publications met Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the Brahmaputra State Guest House here on Wednesday urging him to do away with the flaws in the State government’s recently announced pension scheme for journalists. The team comprising senior journalists Dilip Mahanta, Partha Pratim Hazarika and Prabhat Pathak, apprised the Chief Minister of the limitations of the scheme announced via notification No IPRD - 18/2014/36 on January 16, 2017, and submitted a memorandum in this regard.
“There are some limitations in the scheme and the benefits do not extend to a majority of working journalists. Since it is part of a welfare initiative of the State government, it should include all the working journalists working under certain rules and regulations. The scheme must be rephrased so that the majority of working journalists are not deprived,” the delegation members stated.
It also urged the State government to take all sections of stakeholders into confidence while preparing the new scheme.
