Students’ body opposes shifting of tea company office to Kolkata
DOOMDOOMA, May 17 - Opposing the APJ Tea Limited’s move of shifting its office from Talap near here to Kolkata, the Talap Branch of the Assam Tea Tribe Students’ Association (ATTSA) staged a dharna in front of the office of APJ Tea Limited at Talap on Tuesday.

The company recently shifted its office to Kolkata from Talap without any prior information. The post of the general manager of the office is now attached in the company’s head office in Kolkata. Moreover, the company has been depriving its labourers from the facilities as per the Plantation Labour Act. In protest against the move, the students’ body staged a dharna in front of the tea company office at Talap from 7 to 10 am on Tuesday.

The students’ body leaders demanded the tea company to clarify their stand on these issues before May 25. Otherwise they have threatened to block the NH-37 on May 26, the day on which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will come to Dhola to inaugurate the Dhola-Sadiya bridge.
