Tripura Govt creates 12,000 posts in Education dept

 AGARTALA, May 17 - Tripura Council of Ministers on Wednesday created 12,000 posts in three wings of Education dept ostensibly to ‘accommodate’ 10,323 teachers facing axe.

The created posts include academic counsellor (1,200), student counsellor (4,300), school library assistant (1,500), hostel warden (300) and school assistant (5,600). They will be paid on the basis of fixed pay.

Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty said the Cabinet has decided to create 12,000 posts in the Education department and Social Welfare and Social Education.

“The Cabinet also approved revised appointment policy which will be notified very shortly after fulfilling all official procedure”, he said.

Chakraborty clarified that the department would seek applications for conducting interview for filling the posts. “While five years’ teaching experience is a must for academic counsellor, student counsellor, school library assistant and hostel warden, three years’ of teaching experience is mandatory for school assistant posts”, he said.

“The salary for academic counseller will be Rs 12,000 (fixed) while Rs 10,500 will be offered to student counsellor, school library assistant, hostel warden and Rs 8,500 will be given to school assistant”, he said.

Chakraborty said there will be no walk-in interview or written test but there will be a formal interview for picking up right candidates.

What the Minister did not say was that the move is aimed at accommodating 10,323 teachers of all categories in three wings of Education department.

Altogether 10,323 teachers will be jobless after December 31, 2017 as ordered by Supreme Court on March 28 following separate writ petitions by some deprived job aspirants.
