GUWAHATI, May 16 - “Not adhering to the rules of nature, bad lifestyle including improper eating habits, eating more than the body requires, not being able to utilise the gifts of nature, not learning from the lifestyles of animals, etc., are the major causes for the various ailments suffered by people.” This was observed by Dr Bishnu Prasad Sarmah, Professor, Assam Ayurvedic College, during the course of an awareness programme on ayurvedic remedies organised by the Beltola Senior Citizens’ Forum at the Amal Prova Bhawan of Social Welfare Board, Beltola here recently.
Dr Sarmah said people in general are not much aware of the recent developments made in the field of ayurvedic treatment. He gave a detailed picture with facts and figures as to how ayurvedic treatment had been successful in treating many cases of serious ailments in the Assam Ayurvedic College.
Dr Sarmah, who was assisted by a group of eight doctors from the College, also gave on-the-spot counselling to many senior citizens who approached him with their health issues. Ayurvedic medicines were distributed free of cost among all the senior citizens present at the event.
Prior to the programme, the first sitting of the newly-elected executive committee of the Beltola Senior Citizens’ Forum was held under the chairmanship of Dr Ashok Kumar Goswami.
Prasanna Kumar Borthakur, general secretary, gave a detailed presentation on the various activities undertaken by the forum. The members also put forward their suggestions on matters of public interest and authorised the general secretary to take up the issues with the Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner for necessary action.
