Dibrugarh rejoices with two toppers in HSLC
STAFF Correspondent

Labajyoti Das (5th), Anirban Dutta (10th)
DIBRUGARH, May 15 - Labajyoti Das of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School here grabbed 5th position and Anirban Dutta of BL Beria Saraswati Sishu Mandir here secured the 10th position among the top ten toppers in the HSLC examination, the results of which was declared today.

Labajyoti Das is the son of Sarbeshwar Das and Bharati Das of Chiring Chapori here, while Anirban Dutta is the son of Bikash Chandra Dutta and Eliza Gohain of the city’s Lachitnagar locality. As the two toppers brought laurels to the district, local MLA Prasanta Phukan rushed to felicitate both the achievers at their respective schools.

Labajyoti Das scored an aggregate 589 marks while Anirban Dutta obtained a total of 583 marks to secure a place in the list of toppers. Both the toppers want to pursue their studies in Science stream. While Das has not decided on his choice of career in future, Dutta wants to join the Navy. “I will decide about my career when I join higher secondary,” Das told The Assam Tribune.

The performance of Dibrugarh district as whole is not so encouraging. Out of the 14182 students only 8068 (56.89%) have been successful in the exam. Among the successful students, 2328 students have been placed in first division, 2583 students in the second division and 3157 students in the third division. Last year the pass percentage of the district was even low, at 52.97%.

Although other leading schools like Little Flower School, BVFC Model School, Salt Brook School, Montfort School, St Mary’s School and St Xavier’s School etc., in the district failed to grab top positions, their pass percentage has remained above 95%. Most of the failures are reportedly from government- run schools. The Government Boys’ HS School here is under the occupation of the government since April, due to elections, and no classes are being held. Pleas to have a separate strong room complex for election purposes in the city have resulted in zero response.
