Karimganj youth held for spreading hate speech

 SILCHAR, May 15 - Based on an FIR lodged by Debdulal Das, a resident of Sarisha on the Silchar Road in Karimganj, police arrested Sahine Ahmed (19), son of Abdul Malik and a resident of Kaliganj in Karimganj district, who reportedly used slang and abusive remarks against a particular community on facebook.

Karimganj Superintendent of Police Gaurav Upadhyay informed that following the FIR registered under Section 153/294/295-A of IPC 1860 and Sec 66 and 67 of IT Act 2000, Karimganj Police investigated the case by engaging sources to nab the culprit.

“Our efforts resulted in the arrest of the accused from Ratanpur in Karimganj. He was subsequently produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Karimganj on Sunday. Later, the accused was remanded to two-day police custody”, the SP added.

Upadhyay mentioned that any attempt to insult religion of a class on social media like Facebook will not be tolerated and people making hate speeches in order to create public disorder will be brought to book.
