Former DIG found dead in Jorhat

 JORHAT, May 15 - The body of Prabin Saikia, former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police was recovered from a drain near his residence at Kenduguri area here today.

Police said that he attended a Bihu function on Sunday night in his locality and did not reach home till today morning.

“Only his feet were above water, while his entire body along with his face was below the water level of the drain,” said a senior police officer.

Though the cause of Saikia’s death was yet to be ascertained, the investigators are in the meantime awaiting the post-mortem report. Saikia was an honest police officer and a popular citizen of Jorhat. His demise was widely mourned.

In Dergaon: The unnatural death of the retired DIG near his Jorhat residence was widely mourned at Dergaon, our Correspondent adds.

The IPS officer served in different capacities and was once upon a time the Commandant of 11th APBn at Dergaon. Associated with social activities during his tenure, he established the Naamghar at 11th APBn headquarter at Dergaon.
