Continued loadshedding irks Garo Hills residents
TURA, May 15 - Residents across Garo Hills have questioned the functioning of Meghalaya Electricity Corporation Limited (MeECL) over the continued load shedding occurring in the State despite ample rains.

“MeECL needs to answer as to why it cannot provide electricity and the reason for load shedding,” said social activist Maxbirth G Momin.

Others hit out at the customer service provided by MeECL whose land lines are never reachable during times of crisis.

“Almost all places in Garo Hills are currently under spell of load shedding which lasts for three hours,” added Silning D Sangma, another social activist.

The regulated load shedding has also allowed for small criminal gangs to go on a looting spree, with many cases of theft and loot being reported from Tura.

The loadshedding has affected Phulbari, Bajengdoba, Resubelpara, Tura, Williamnagar, Baghmara, etc. The MeECL officials remained unavailable for comment.
