SGBG demands Pradyut’s resignation
Staff reporter
GUWAHATI, May 12 – Save Guwahati Build Guwahati (SGBG), the NGO campaigning for better infrastructure and amenities in the city, has demanded the resignation of State Power Minister Pradyut Bordoloi for his inability to resolve the energy crisis of Assam.

In a statement release to the media today, the SGBG flayed Bordoloi for his failure to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply in the State even after the infusion of massive funds spread over several years during his tenure as a minister.

‘Pradyut Bordoloi can provide many reasons behind the abysmal power situation, but the fact remains that he has been an utter failure as a Power Minister and should therefore step down from his post on moral grounds,’ the SGBG stated.

Criticising Bordoloi, the SGBG further mentioned that in the last ten years the availability of power to consumers in Assam has not increased, but the power tariff has continued to rise, putting scores of people in dire straits.

The SGBG urged the Assam Government to have a serious rethink on a number of issues allied to the power sector – to have pragmatic schemes, reactivate dysfunctional institutions, and enhance the State’s own generating capacity, among others.
