APDCL signs MoU for distributing LED bulbs, tubelights

 GUWAHATI, May 10 - The Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for collaboration with Energy Efficiency Services Limited, a joint venture company under the Union Ministry of Power, for the purpose of distributing LED bulbs, LED tubelights and efficient fans under the Unnat Jyoti Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) and Performance for Acceleration of Energy Saving Fans (PAVAN), launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.UJALA and PAVAN programmes have been widely acclaimed for their energy saving potential.

Under these schemes, 9 watt (W) LED bulbs, 20 watt LED tubelights and 50 watt efficient fans will be distributed at the rate of Rs 70, Rs 230 and Rs 1,150 respectively. Under these schemes, each of the consumers is entitled to get upto 10 LED bulbs, 10 LED tubelights and 10 efficient fans. The 9W LED bulb, 20W tubelight and 50W efficient fan is equivalent to 60W ICL, 40W tubelight and inefficient fan of 75 watts. The market prices of the above LED appliances are more than Rs 250, Rs 400 and Rs 1,800 respectively.

From now on, consumers can purchase these products from their nearest APDCL subdivisions and sale of these products in the fair price shops and common service centres will be arranged soon. Each of the LED bulbs and LED tubelights has a three-year warranty period, while each of the efficient fans has a two-year warranty period. This programme also covers industrial and commercial consumers, stated a press release here.

APDCL earlier distributed nearly 2, 80,000 LED bulbs of 7W to its consumers under the DELP scheme and is expecting to save even more energy with the UJALA and PAVAN schemes, added the press release.
