Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, May 6 – A major fire broke out in a plastic factory located in Bishnupur of Kalapahar area under Fatasil Ambari police station around 3 this afternoon.

The fire which was apparently caused due to short-circuit, engulfed most part of the factory within few minutes after the fire was spotted by the persons engaged with repairing works of the unit.

The inferno also gutted a motorbike and a pick-up van parked inside the factory premises, sources in the State Fire Service Organisation told The Assam Tribune.

Sources informed that as many as eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot and it took over three hours for them to douse the fire.

“Today being Sunday, some of the repairing works were taking place in the factory. However, none of the workers sustained injury during the incident,” the sources pointed out, adding that short-circuit occurred in the electric transformer.

“The loss however could not be ascertained as yet,” the sources added.

Locals, however, alleged that the factory is functioning without following the requisite norms, which led to the incident.
