RANGIYA, May 5 – State Minister for Border Development, Siddique Ahmed today visited Lampi located at the inter-state border with Meghalaya and asked citizens on both sides to maintain peace and harmony, reports PTI.
Lampi, in lower Assam’s Kamrup Rural district, has witnessed tension during the past few months over alleged encroachment by Meghalaya.
Residents of the area had resorted to a 500-hour road blockade in March demanding action against suspected encroachers.
Official sources said during his trip, Ahmed interacted with villagers in the area and inquired about their problems.
He was accompanied by the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police, the sources added.
