Farmer makes ‘live’ statue of Bhupen Hazarika
Correspondent
DUNI, May 4 – Farmer Damodar Kalita who is locally known as ‘Damu’ of Dagiapara village near Dipilachowka under Sipajhar Police Station has drawn attention from all sections of local people and mediapersons by making a statue of world famous singer late Dr Bhupen Hazarika. The statue has been made of wood, bamboo, etc. To make the six-feet high statue, Kalita used various kinds of woods like neem, gamhar, chatian, bonchom etc. Kalita took nearly one month to complete the statue which can present songs standing in front of a microphone by playing the harmonium like late Dr Hazarika. Kalita has connected a few wheels with the statue, so that its hands, head, throat etc may be easily and automatically moved. Besides this, the statue can also fully respond to the request of audiences for a definite song with the help of a remote control device. Kalita who has already made the statues of his grandmother, grandfather, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa etc. is now very eagerly waiting to exhibit his handmade sculpture of late Dr Bhupen Hazarika in any public function in Guwahati city.

Damu feels that his statue will at least partially be able to fill up the space of the popular singer for a bit sometime on the cultural stage.
