Credibility of police at stake as 4 escape custody

 JORABAT, May 1 - The credibility of Khetri police officials has been questioned after four accused apprehended on the allegations of attacking a team of Forest Department officials on-duty escaped from the police custody last Saturday.

As per Sonapur Forest Range officials, their team rushed to the spot on receiving information of illegal hill cutting activity running in Kahikuchi area under Khetri police station on Saturday afternoon.

Unfortunately, the Forest Department team was attacked by the land mafias and the men involved in illegal hill cutting activity in Kahikuchi area as the officials tried to seize the earth-mover and other vehicles used for the same. All the forest officials sustained injuries.

A Forest Department official said, “When they tried to seize the vehicles, nearly two dozen miscreants came and attacked our team.” Later, a team of Khetri police led by Sub-Inspector Manoranjan Rajkhowa officials rushed to the spot rescued the forest team. The police team also apprehended four miscreants from the spot. An FIR was lodged in this connection, but due to the alleged negligence of the Khetri police, the four accused escaped from the police station.
