CSIR-NEIST celebrates 51st foundation day

 JORHAT, March 29 – The CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST), celebrated its 51st foundation day at Dr JN Baruah auditorium recently with a well charted out programme.

The programme was attended by eminent scientists, invited dignitaries from India and Thailand, guests, prominent citizens of the town, members of Press, media, students and teachers of nearby schools, colleges, universities and members of CSIR-NEIST fraternity, both old and new.

Dr Peeradet Tongumpai, Director, Agricultural Research Development Agency, Bangkok, Thailand graced the occasion as the chief guest and delivered a lecture on ‘Research in agriculture in Thailand’. He highlighted the national policy and strategies of Thailand in agricultural research.

With only 36 per cent of academicians and researchers, the country has made significant contribution in agricultural research. Prasert Gosalvitra, Director General and Oratai Silapan, Deputy Director General, The Queen Sirikit Department of Sericulture were present as guest of honour and special guest, respectively. They expressed their thanks and gratitude to NEIST for the opportunity to discuss with outstanding and eminent scientists about future collaborative research on sericulture.

Dr RC Boruah, noted scientist, CSIR-NEIST briefly highlighted the activities of NEIST in his welcome address. In his presidential address, Dr PG Rao, Director, CSIR-NEIST mentioned that the present visit of the Thailand delegates would strengthen the MoU signed between ARDA (Agricultural Research Development Agency), Bangkok, Thailand and CSIR-NEIST for future collaborative research which is as per the ‘Look East’ policy of the Govt. of India. Like ARDA, CSIR-NEIST is also on the way to develop products for commercialisation based on research on natural resources, he added. On the occasion a book on popularisation of science titled Alap Vigyan, Alap Chinta written by Dr CN Saikia, former Scientist of CSIR-NEIST was released by Dr PG Rao. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to staff members who excelled in their performances and rendered exemplary service in their respective fields during 2011 - 2012. Besides, members of staff who were superannuated during 2011 – 2012 were given token felicitation for the services rendered for the growth and development of the institute.
