Volleyball meet at Hajo

 GUWAHATI, March 29 – Zila Parishad Kamrup will hold the Inter Development Block Prize-money Volleyball Tournament at Hajo HS School playground from April 2 to 4.

Giving details about the championship, Chief Executive Officer of Kamrup Zila Parishad Kanak Kachari said in a press conference here today said altogether 16 development block teams have confirmed their participation in the meet which will be a league-cum-knockout affair. The teams are divided into four groups and after the preliminary league stage, two teams from each group will qualify for the knockout quarterfinals. The final has been slated for April 4. Kachari revealed that after the inaugural function, an exhibition match between Assam Police and NF Railway will be played under lights. Kachari further said that the tournament has been organised out of their own fund and the champion team will be awarded Rs 10,000. Accordingly the runners-up team will get Rs 7,500 while the third and fourth teams will become richer by Rs 5000 and Rs 3000 respectively. Fairplay trophy, best player, best blocker, best lifter and best spiker trophy will also be given in the championship.

Shaheb Ali Khan, president of Kamrup Zila Parishad said that in the line of Panchayat Yuva Krira aur Khel Abhijan (PYKKA) the championship has been organised. Last year they had organised a football tournament at Rampur. In order to find out the hidden talent in rural areas under Kamrup Zila Parishad they are organising such sporting events.

District Sports Officer SS Roy also explained about the organising part of the championship.
