Top Assam Police officials under scanner

GUWAHATI, March 29 – Controversy and Assam Police seem to share a strong bonding. This time though, the pain in the neck for the Assam Police headquarters is showing no sign of respite with credentials of a few top police officials under the scanner.

These include Indian Police Service (IPS) and Assam Police Service officials serving in different capacities in the State, a development which has even peeved various circles at Dispur.

A source in the Home Department informed that Dispur is now keeping a close tab on the development surrounding the senior police officials' alleged involvement in the cases concerned.

While names of a top serving IPS officer and two APS officers are doing rounds for their alleged roles in encroaching Government land within the jurisdiction of Kamrup (Metro), the controversy surrounding Additional SP Leena Doley and IGP (Logistics) Mukesh Agarwal has now reached the Court room.

The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup today took cognizance of a case filed by Anita Agarwal, wife of IGP (Logistics) Mukesh Agarwal for defaming her husband.

Earlier, Leena Doley had lodged written complaint with Home Department, Assam Police DGP and the State Women Rights Commission alleging that the senior police official had made 'indecent proposal' via SMS. "Leena Doley has been asked to appear before the Court on June 11," senior advocate Sailen Das said.

Moreover, it has been reported the IPS officer along with APS officers, facing the charges of allegedly encroaching Government land, has been asked to clarify their stand by the district administration.
