Administration streamlines supply of essential commodities
STAFF CORRESPONDENT
DIBRUGARH, March 26 - In a bid to streamline the supply and availability of essential commodities during the lockdown period, the district administration held a meeting with the traders’ body at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner here on yesterday evening in presence of officials of Food, Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs. The meeting was presided over by ADC Rajiv Thapa.

Following the meeting, the administration announced that all the authorised retail grocery shops will be allowed to remain functional from 8 am to 1 pm. Similarly, the wholesalers of essential items will be allowed to function from 8 am to 2 pm. Business hours for medicine shops remain unchanged.

The retail dealers of essential commodities have been asked to minimise their staff. Further, the retail shops selling essential commodities and pharmacies have also been asked to start a home delivery system.

In the meeting, the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs asked all the depots of the transporters which are dealing with the transportation of essential commodities to ensure prompt delivery of the commodities to the consignee.

Further, due to inadequate space to follow the COVID-19 health protocols, all grocery shops in the rice market situated in the New Market of the town have been told to close down today until further order.
