Police aquatic meet begins

 GUWAHATI, March 24 – The 61st All India Police Aquatic Meet and Cross Country Race Championship was formally inaugurated by Assam DGP Jayanto Narayan Choudhury today at Dr Zakir Hussain Aquatic Sports Complex, Sarusajai here. In his inaugural speech DGP Choudhury said that such championships provide an opportunity to the sports persons to learn new techniques and improve their standard in the spirit of competitiveness with true sportsmanship. He also released the souvenir Jaltaranga on the occasion. Along with 540 swimmers from 19 states and 6 central paramilitary forces are taking part in the meet.

Organizing secretary AK Sinha Casshyap, ADGP welcomed the gathering and participants.

Three events-400 mts free style men, 100 mts breast stroke and 50 mts back stroke were held today. In 400 mts free style men final M Anand Rao Divase from BSF bag Gold while Manu BM of CRPF got Silver. N Guno Singh, BSF got bronze.

In 100 mts breast stroke Punit Rana from Haryana claimed Gold, Rohit Kumar CRPF got Silver while Shrikant Palanse, Maharashtra secured Bronze. In 50 mts back Stroke gold went to Arjun Murlidharan, BSF, Silver- Rajbeer Singh, Punjab and Bronze secured by Subrata Nandi, BSF. The medals were distributed by DGP Choudhury.
