TURA, March 22 - Two time MP and National Peoples’ Party candidate, Agatha K Sangma today filed her nomination papers from the Tura seat setting the scene for a two horse contest in the constituency.
Speaking to media persons, Agatha expressed confidence of winning the seat despite a heavyweight in Meghalaya State politics, Dr Mukul Sangma being pitted against her. She also stated that the focus of her election campaign would be development.
“The focus obviously has been on development and I think that in the last one year the State Government under the leadership of Conrad Sangma has performed well. I believe the mandate will reflect the appreciation of the MDA’s work,” said Agatha.
Agatha filed her nomination in front of the Returning Officer of the Tura parliamentary constituency, Ram Singh and was accompanied by NPP MLA, Thomas Sangma along with a group of supporters. Her mother along with NPP MLAs, Ponseng Marak, Rupert Momin and chief whip Marcuise Marak were also present.
Her rival, Congress candidate and former CM, Dr Mukul Sangma is expected to file his nomination on Monday, the last day for filing nomination.
