GUWAHATI, March 22 – A Rapid Chess Tournament was held at the Assam Engineering College (AEC) premises as part of its annual fest ‘Pyrokinesis’. The tournament was organised by the Assam Engineering College in association with Assam Chess Club. The event was sponsored by Akshayam, a city based sports promotion NGO and Indian Post.
Altogether 52 players, including 22 Fide rated players from different parts of Assam participated in this 7-round Swiss League rapid event.
Rajib Dhar and L Imocha tied for the first position scoring 6 points each. However Rajib was adjudged champion on the basis of better tie break score and Imocha had to settle with the second position. Nandan Buragohain was placed 3rd in the final ranking list. Prandeep Bhattacharya was picked as the best AEC player.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Binod Khemka, working president, M Arun Singh, secretary Guwahati Chess Association, L Imocha, joint secretary Dibrugarh Chess association and Biswajit Bharadwaj, secretary Assam Chess Club, stated a release.
