NCP stages walk out
Correspondent
SHILLONG, March 20 – The Opposition NCP today staged a walk-out in the Assembly alleging that the government has tabled an “incomplete” Budget.

Leader of Opposition, Conrad Sangma said that there was no fund allocated for Garo Hills and some portions were left blank on the demand for grants for Khasi and Jaintia Hills in the Budget. He, therefore, demanded that a complete Budget be tabled again.

“There was no money allotted to the Garo Hills region and while portions of the demand on grants for the year 2012-13 for Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills region were blank,” Conrad Sangma claimed.

Chief Minister Mukul Sangma yesterday presented a deficit Budget of Rs 382 crore for 2012-13 and proposed tax increase on alcohol and tobacco products.

“We are not passing his (Chief Minister) speech but a budget document for the State,” he said and demanded that the budget must be re-tabled having proper fund allocation for Garo Hills and the demand for grants for each district be filled correctly.
