Sikkim Govt holds media discussion on COVID-19

 GANGTOK, March 18 - The Department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) of the Sikkim Government today organised a meeting with media persons to discuss ways to intensify the campaign against coronavirus. The meeting was chaired by the Secretary, IPR Department, Namrata Thapa, and was attended by media representatives of most local daily newspapers, All India Radio, Doordarshan, Samvaad Television, Red FM and Radio Misty, and digital and social media houses, as well as representatives of the Sikkim Film Cooperative Society (SFCS). The State IEC Officer, IEC Bureau, Health Department, Sonam G Bhutia, was invited to sensitise the media fraternity on COVID-19.

The Secretary of the IPR Department, Namrata Thapa, briefed the media persons on the preventive measures taken by the State Government. She called for intensifying the awareness campaign on COVID-19, and called for proactive support from the media fraternity to reach out to the people of the State. She stated that the IPR Department is working in close coordination with the State Health Department to prepare print and audio-visual awareness materials on various aspects of coronavirus. She said that these materials would be shared with media houses for extensive coverage. The IPR Secretary also shared the communication strategies prepared by the IPR Department in consultation with the State Health Department.
