Budget has completely neglected NE: Manipur MP
Correspondent

IMPHAL, March 18 – Lok Sabha MP from Manipur Dr Thokchom Meinya Singh has accused the BJP-led Government at the Centre for completely neglecting the Northeastern States while passing the budget in the Parliament.

Criticising the Union budget during the discussion on the budget in the parliament today, Dr Meinya (Congress), according to a press communique, observed “This budget is highly prejudiced, partial, passive, paradoxical and pathetic.”

“The budgetary allocations for the poor, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, women and children have been drastically reduced,” Meinya alleged. “Therefore, this budget is highly prejudiced against the poor, SCs, STs, women and children. By doing away with wealth tax and reducing the corporate tax from 30 per cent to 25 per cent, this budget is very partial towards the corporates, industrialists and the rich”, he alleged.

Accusing that this Budget has completely neglected the North East, he questioned where has the Northeast Industrial Policy gone. After this budget, the rich will become richer and the poor will become poorer. This time, the Ministry of Health was given Rs 33,152 crores against the demand for Rs 50,000 crore. When we are encountering dreaded diseases like H1N1, AIDS, etc., this is unfortunate, he added in the press communique.

As per the recommendation of the 14th Finance Commission, the share of taxes and duties of the States has been increased from 32 per cent to 42 per cent, he observed and wondered, what about the poor and small States where the revenue realisation is very low.
