Budget pragmatic, says Gogoi
Staff reporter
GUWAHATI, March 17 – Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi described the Union Budget as a pragmatic one, and said that the Budget should be viewed against the backdrop of the global economic recession.

Gogoi, in a statement, said tough measures need to be taken to take the economy on the path of growth. He said taxes need to levied to meet the rising expenses.

He said Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee rightly stressed skill development, building up surface communication, food security and extending support to small and medium enterprises.

Gogoi expressed the hope that Assam would get a substantial amount of fund for skill development. Even before the Budget, the Union Government waived loan amounting to Rs 1500 crore, while, the World Bank has sanctioned a loan of Rs 2000 crore for road projects to the state, he pointed out.
