BAIHATA CHARIALI, March 16 - As per the direction of Election Commission of India, this year for the first time in the country, the Voters Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system will be connected with the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) for the forthcoming parliamentary election.
Along with the rest of the country, in Assam the Kamrup election district also organised a number of awareness meetings-cum workshops on VVPAT in different pockets of the district. Kamal Kumar Baishya, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup district who is also the Returning Officer of Kamrup election district said that a team of resource persons have been engaged to organise awareness meetings regarding VVPAT in the entire Kamrup election district.
Accordingly, the team has already held awareness meetings at the Circle Offices of Koya and Hajo, Ukhura Chowk, Bagta Chowk, Hajo Pakhamela Chowk, Panchayats and Block Development Offices of Hajo LAC and Suren Das College of Hajo under 55 No. Hajo LAC, D K College of Mirza, Panchayats and Block Development Offices of Palashbari LAC and the main marketing and public places under 50 No. Palashbari LAC, along with BP College and FA Ahmed College under 48 No. Boko LAC.
Moreover, the team also organised workshops in the National Law University and Indian Institute of Technology ( IIT ) Guwahati. It is to be mentioned here that the Kamrup election district authority has appointed Mr World Golap Rabha and Green Oscar award recipient Purnima Devi Barman as brand ambassadors for the election awareness campaign among the public. They will attend every election awareness campaign to be held under the election district and call on the masses to take part in the forthcoming parliamentary election.
The district election authority also informed that as a part of the election awareness campaign, the authority has decided to take out bicycle rallies at Hajo and Mirza and to exhibit street plays at Palashbari and Boko.
