SILCHAR, March 15 - As many as 5,124 polling officials for the 1,281 polling stations of Cachar district are undergoing training at the District Library auditorium. The officials will be given important inputs on the applications of EVMs during the training sessions scheduled in two parts – from 10 am to 1 pm and from 1 pm to 5 pm.
On the other hand, in an interesting move, the Cachar district administration has made arrangements to introduce VVPAT and mobile application ‘POLL Friend’ for the officials during the election process.
Prerna Sharma, Assistant Commissioner Cachar, said that the polling officials will be given a specially designed ‘Android set’ and other technical equipment for easy access of information. Talking to this correspondent, Sharma said that the in-house mobile application developed by the National Institute of Technology Silchar will assist the Presiding Officers to monitor the poll proceedings and EVM tracking.
“The user friendly application will help the Presiding Officers across the polling booths to access data regarding vote cast from the polling booths easily,” Sharma said, adding that the Election Commission of India has also appreciated the move by the district administration.
On the other hand, the notification for filing nominations for elections to all the 15 Assembly constituencies has been issued on March 11. The directions regarding the filing of nominations have been displayed outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner.
As per the notification, the last date for receipt of nomination is March 18. Candidates can file nominations from 11 am till 3 pm to the Returning Officer or Assistant Returning Officer. The office of the Deputy Commissioner and the whole office enclave has been brought under tight security cover. Barricades have been put on the approach points of the submission centres.
Meanwhile, according to a release issued to the media, the BJP candidates of Cachar district will submit their nominations on March 17.
