JORHAT, March 13 - Golaghat police yesterday arrested one of the main accused in connection with hooch deaths case that claimed about 100 people in the district last month.
A police source said that Nripen Thengal, was arrested from his home at Rongajan area of Golaghat district, after receiving an information that he was present in the house.
The source stated Thengal is believed to have supplied the toxic substance (believed to be methanol) to the producers of sulai brew, the consumption of which led to the deaths.
The source added that the accused has reportedly confessed to the police during interrogation of procuring the toxic substance from a shop in Bokajan area of adjoining Karbi Anglong district.
Police were on the lookout for a few more persons who were allegedly involved in the tragic incident.
