4 PNB officials arrested in loan fraud case
GUWAHATI, March 13 - The Bureau of Investigation (Economic Offences) (BIEO) today arrested four senior officials of the Zoo Road branch of Punjab National Bank in connection with the Rs 2.58 crore loan fraud case.

The accused – AGM Dhiren Kumar Choudhury, chief manager Anil Tiwari, auditor Pranjit Bhuyan and credit manager Bharat Singh – were summoned yesterday and grilled till late in the night.

The action on the officials came a week after five persons, including Phanidhar Talukdar, the proprietor of a real estate firm and his four employees – were arrested for securing loans using forged documents.

Three loans were taken in January-June, 2016. Two of them were against flats – one of Rs 75 lakh and another of Rs 83 lakh. The third loan was a cash credit loan of Rs 1 crore which was taken against a fake godown. The housing flats against which the loans were taken were already registered in the name of different owners.

BIEO sources said the four accused bank officials have been booked under sections 120 (b), 420, 468 and 406 of IPC.

The arrested bank officials were today produced before the court which remanded them to two days’ police custody.
