BJP all set to form new municipal board in Lakhipur
Correspondent
SILCHAR, March 10 - In what could be termed a massive blow to Congress, two commissioners from the Lakhipur Municipal Board under Cachar district have joined the BJP recently.

Vice chairman of the Congress-ruled board and commissioner of ward number 3, Pulok Jyoti Das along with commissioner of ward number 5, Nandita Gurung joined the saffron camp in the presence of BJP State president Ranjit Dass at the Silchar Circuit House.

Interestingly, with two of its commissioners joining the BJP, the 10-member Congress-ruled Muncipal Board is on the brink of being dissolved while the BJP with seven members looks all set to form the new board. The new members were warmly greeted by the BJP cadres.

On the other hand, the State BJP president Ranjit Dass who was on a three-day visit to Barak Valley had a meeting with the chairman and commissioners of Silchar Municipal Board on Monday evening after taking stock of the activities of the party in the three districts. It may be mentioned that in a similar fashion, BJP formed the municipal board in Lala after one Congress commissioner swapped sides.
