GUWAHATI, March 10 – Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi formally declared the Assam State Film Award Festival-2010 and Celebration of 75 Years of Assamese Cinema open at the Rabindra Bhavan this evening.A host of luminaries from the film industry, including several from Bollywood, attended the function that recognized and honoured the contributions of 29 personalities from the Assamese cinema industry.
Among the dignitaries were Parikshit Sahani, Seema Biswas and Jahnu Barua. Sahani was the guest of honour.
In his inaugural address, the Chief Minister reiterated the State Government’s commitment to bail out the ailing Assamese cine industry from its current predicament, saying that the Government would stand by it in its endeavour to achieve technological innovations and upgradation.
“We are with the film industry and will assist it as it makes efforts to overcome the difficult times it has been in,” Gogoi said.
Gogoi said that the Government would try to facilitate private-public-partnership (PPP) for film-making. “The PPP mode of film production can be tried, and the Government will definitely assist such an endeavour,” he added.
Cultural Affairs Minister Bharat Chandra Narah said that the Jyoti Chitraban Film and Television Institute would soon be developed as a full-fledged institution to serve the region’s film industry in good stead.
