Plea to set up agricultural, veterinary college
DIBRUGARH, March 9 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was petitioned by local samaritan Parag Dutta to establish an agricultural and veterinary college in the city. Dutta, who is ideologically close to the BJP, said such a college would be of immense benefit for the people of the four upper Assam districts of Charaideo, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia.

He met Sonowal at the Chief Minister’s private residence here on Tuesday, where he submitted his petition and also briefed Sonowal on the issue. Dutta said that Sonowal was quite enthusiastic of the suggestion, and has agreed to positively follow up the demand.

Dutta said an agricultural-cum-veterinary college here would be a catalyst to the development of the farm and livestock sector in the region. He added that farmers would benefit from new farming technologies, while the college would also churn out a pool of human resources that could trigger accelerate development of a sustainable agronomy.
