GUWAHATI, March 9 – Local outfit Green valley Sports Club registered a 2-0 victory against Sports Authority of India (SAI) Kokrajhar in the Guwahati leg match of the 4th Airtel Assam State Premier League.
The Kokrajhar boys today played a much improved game at the Nehru Stadium here in comparison to their previous match against OIL when they conceded nine goals.
Green Valley, which recently took part in the B Division I-League, could not impress their supporters. Their midfielders Bijoy Borgohain and Thomson Langthasa hardly could feed their frontliners properly and as a result Green Valley strikers were seen confused at the striking zone. Apurba Phukan, however, with some solo effort made valiant effort for hitting the target. But he was unlucky in so many occasions as he hit the wood work after beating the opponent custodian Luchan Saikia. Veteran Sanjeeva Rongpi put Green Valley ahead in the 21st minute with a sharp header off a floater sent by Apurba Phukan.
After the break Salau Nuruddin netted the second goal making a one-two pass with his Nigerian team mate Imanual Inioyoh in the 60th minute. Kokrajhar goal keeper Luchan had some courageous show and he made some good saves through out the course.
Kokrajhar attackers tried every thing to over power Green Valley defenders but it was a tough nut to crack and all the moves were foiled easily.
Earlier ASEB Sports Club played goal less draw against FCI SC yesterday.
