Tension prevails as police arrest 14 at Silapathar

 SILAPATHAR, March 8 - Tension prevailed on the third day at Silapathar and its adjoining area with shops and business establishment remained closed today. Army, police and paramilitary forces carried out a flag march at Silapathar. However, some miscreants set Mandal Hotel situated at Silapathar Namsuk on fire yesterday night. No major incident was reported from Silapathar town and Jonai. However, the police arrested 14 persons till filing this report. Silapathar Police Station organised a citizen meet at Silapathar Police Station today to defuse the tensed situation. The meeting was presided over by Circle Officer of Sissiborgaon, Arundhuti Narah Mipun.

Bangali citizens and business community of Silapathar town have strongly condemned the incident of March 6 of Nikhil Bharat Bangali Udbastu Samanvay Samiti (NBBUSS) activists, through a press release issued to Silapathar press club signed by a few youths. They have appealed to the government and administration to arrest the culprit and punish them.

NBBUSS activists, the All Assam Students’ Union continued their agitation against the Subodh Biswas and NBBUSS.

A huge protest rally was organised at the Court Field of Dhemaji district headquarters today in presences of 19 organisations and workers along with general public. AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi strongly appealed to the government to arrest Subodh Biswas within 12 hours, saying that it is a shame for the administration and the government that they are not being able to arrest all 21 people even after 48 hours against whom a case is lodged in this regard.

Meanwhile, one Indra Bodo (18) was attacked by a few miscreants at around 6.30 pm at Silapathar. As many as nine persons have been arrested in this connection from Silapathar Society.
