Women’s Day prog to spread message of equality, change

 GUWAHATI, March 6 - A number of leading women’s organisations of the State are coming together on the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8 to observe the day in a befitting manner and spread the message of equality and change.

All India Democratic Women’s Association, Asom Mahila Sangha, Sadou Asom Pragatisheel Nari Sanstha and North East Network in association with some leading citizens of society will celebrate the day to ensure State accountability and to promote and protect women’s rights in various fields.

A discussion on religious fundamentalism and its impact on women will be held on the occasion on March 8 from 11 am at Gauri Sadan, near the Dighalipukhuri.

Distinguished author Arupa Patangia Kalita and woman leaders from different fields will take part in the discussion.

The North East Network is holding a number of activities throughout the State coinciding with International Women’s Week.

As part of the initiative an interface meeting with government departments and a public meeting will be held in Golaghat on March 6. This will be followed by a celebration with weavers of Saneki Weaves in Udalguri and the discussion on religious fundamentalism and women in Guwahati.

The International Women’s Week programmes started in Kamrup on March 2 with a public meeting and cultural programme, followed by a solo drama performance by Antara GG Choudhury in Darrang.

Innerwheel Club: Innerwheel Club of Guwahati East will celebrate International Day of Woman with a daylong programme on March 8 at Hotel Cygnett Inn Repose located on GS Road near ABC bus stop here. Sewali Choudhary, retired general manager of Reserve Bank of India will be the chief guest.

Apart from a detailed discussion on the role of women in the positive growth of society, three successful woman entrepreneurs of greater Guwahati will be honoured on this occasion, said a press release.
