GUWAHATI, March 3 - In Assam Police, as on February 7, altogether 4,139 posts in unarmed branch stream and 6,907 posts in armed branch stream remain vacant, revealed a statement issued by the State government.
According to the statement, in unarmed branch stream, four posts of additional director general of police, nine posts of inspector general of police, 13 posts of superintendent of police, six posts of additional superintendent of police, 147 posts of deputy superintendent of police, 154 posts of inspector, 803 posts of sub-inspector, 261 posts of assistant sub-inspector, 262 posts of head constable, 86 posts of Naik and 2,394 posts of constables remain vacant as on February 7.
In armed branch stream, 26 posts of inspector, 29 posts of sub-inspector, 25 posts of assistant sub-inspector, 1,103 posts of havildar, 545 posts of Naik, 4,217 posts of constables and 962 posts of fourth-grade staff remain vacant as on February 7.
According to the government data, during 2018, the highest number of crime-related cases had been registered in Kamrup (Metro) district followed by Nagaon and Barpeta districts. On the other hand, during 2018, the lowest number of cases had been registered in Majuli.
In Kamrup (Metro), altogether 18,436 cases were reported, including 96 murder cases, 66 rape cases, 677 kidnapping cases, six dacoity cases, 465 robbery cases, 156 extortion cases, 1,034 burglary cases, 4,234 theft cases, 42 rioting cases, 422 criminal breach of trust cases, 1,338 cheating cases and 63 counterfeit cases. Moreover, 8,716 cases were registered under other sections of IPC and 1,121 cases were registered under other acts.
In Nagaon district, altogether 9,159 cases were registered in 2018, including 78 murder cases, 108 rape cases, 545 kidnapping cases, 12 dacoity cases, 158 robbery cases, 60 extortion cases, 346 burglary cases, 923 theft cases, 88 rioting cases, 182 cases of criminal breach of trust, 454 cheating cases and one counterfeit case. Moreover, in this district, 5,661 cases were registered under other sections of IPC and 543 cases were registered under other acts.
In Barpeta district, altogether 8,079 cases were registered in 2018, including 57 murder cases, 234 rape cases, 574 kidnapping cases, five dacoity cases, 48 robbery cases, 18 extortion cases, 262 burglary cases, 610 theft cases, 178 rioting cases, 216 cases of criminal breach of trust, 279 cheating cases and five counterfeit cases. Moreover, during that year, 5,309 cases were registered under other sections of IPC and 284 cases were registered under other acts.
In Majuli, altogether 186 cases were registered in 2018, including five murder cases, four rape cases, 14 kidnapping cases, two robbery cases, one extortion case, nine burglary cases, 14 theft cases and 12 cheating cases, Moreover, in that year, in Majuli, 113 cases were registered under other sections of IPC and 12 cases under other acts.
Meanwhile, numbers of cases registered in other districts of the State are 6,133 in Kamrup, 2,382 in Nalbari, 3,241 in Goalpara, 7,749 in Dhubri, 1,676 in Kokrajhar, 4,641 in Sonitpur, 3,911 in Darrang, 3,045 in Sivasagar, 4,825 in Jorhat, 3,913 in Golaghat, 4,773 in Dibrugarh, 3,541 in Lakhimpur, 1,370 in Karbi Anglong, 257 in Dima Hasao, 7,354 in Cachar, 3,327 in Karimganj, 2,736 in Bongaigaon, 3,542 in Morigaon, 3,836 in Tinsukia, 1,463 in Dhemaji, 2,591 in Hailakandi, 1,009 in Chirang, 1,289 in Udalguri, 1,590 in Baksa, 288 in Hamren, 1,462 in Biswanath Chariali, 3,098 in Hojai, 275 in Sadiya, 1,665 in South Salmara and 708 in Charaideo.
The statement further stated that during 2018 across the State, 1,274 cases of murder, 1,909 cases of rape, 7,651 cases of kidnapping, 155 cases of dacoity, 1,369 cases of robbery, 1,404 cases of extortion, 4,580 cases of burglary, 15,669 cases of theft, 1,098 cases of rioting, 2,214 criminal breach of trust cases, 5,848 cases of cheating and 92 cases of counterfeit had been registered with various police stations.
