Noted litterateur Abdul Gafur passes away
 CHAPAR, March 3 – Noted litterateur and Sitanath Brahma Choudhury awardee Alhaj Abdul Gafur passes away today at 9-40 am at his residence at Chapar Rowmari in Dhubri district following illness. He was 72.

Born in 1941 at Bahalpur Jalikura village in Dhubri district he started his service career as a teacher at Chalantapara High School in 1965. Later, he joined Raijhora High School, Bahalpur and Chapar Madrassa HS School. He retired in 1999 from Chapar Madrassa HS School. He was associated with Asam Sahitya Sabha and became the secretary of Chapar Sakha Sahitya Sabha in 1988. He was also the decretary of the undivided Goalpara Zila Sahitya Sabha for two years.

He wrote various books like ‘Goalparia Sanskriti,’ ‘Byakti aru Jiban’, ‘Sanakritir dharak bahak’. The Asam Sahitya Sabha awarded him prestigious ‘Sitanath Brahma Choudhury Award’ in 2004 for his famous book ‘Goalparia Sanskriti’.

Various socio-cultural and educational institutions condoled the death of the litterateur. His janaja was largely attended by people from all sections. He leaves behind his wife, three sons and four daughters.
