|Black Day observed to recall Emergency|
GUWAHATI, June 26 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh observed Black Day today as a reminder of the days of emergency which the party described as one of darkest periods of India.

A programme in this connection was organised at ITA, Machkhowa as a mark of protest against the misdeeds of the Congress.
Attending the programme, Union Health Minister JP Nadda said that over 1 lakh people were arrested during the emergency. Nadda in his address recalled those leaders who had raised their voices against the emergency urging to save democracy.
State BJP president Siddhartha Bhattacharya and Guwahati Lok Sabha MP Bijoya Chakravarty were also present in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhattacharya said that the Congress never respected the democratic principles and its character has remained the same over the decades. He slammed the Congress for betraying the people and called upon the citizens to be vigilant in the backdrop of myriad challenges staring at the face of democracy.
Nadda also felicitated a few citizens who had been put behind the bar during emergency.
