|2 arrested in gangrape of woman|
TURA, June 23 - Police have arrested two persons on allegations of rape after a complaint filed by a woman in Tura Police Station in West Garo Hills district a few days ago.
Another two persons, who were also allegedly involved, have remained unidentified after the victim refused to name the other two. According to police, the 21 year-old woman was known to the two accused and had gone with them in an autorickshaw to Chibragre – a well known tourist spot on the outskirts of Tura. One of the accused is the autodriver, with the other being a friend. The incident of sexual assault took place on June 18 near Rongkhon, close to Tura.
“At Chibragre, they were joined by another two youths and there was allegedly a party. It was when they were returning to Tura that the vehicle broke down. Some youths came to assist in the repair, but they found all three of them drunk, after which the two arrested accused were assaulted. They, however, escaped in the melee,” said SP of WGH, Dr MGR Kumar.
The girl revealed that she had been sexually abused by four men in Rongkhon. Medical reports have not been conclusive on the matter though sexual assault has not been ruled out. “She maintained that four persons gangraped her but we have not been able to get the other two names from her. Our investigation into the matter is continuing,” added the SP.
