TURA, June 23 - The Nongalbibra Nokmas of South Garo Hills on Thursday met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, seeking redress of their grievances. The meeting held at Shillong was led by the Daranggre Nokmas’ Welfare Association . The Chief Minister gave a patient hearing to the problems faced by the people and assured their resolution at the earliest.
On June 4, the Nokmas held a meeting at Pathalgittim and resolved to bring their problems to the notice of the Government. The Nokmas highlighted the problem of drinking water faced by the people due to lack of PHE water connections. They sought the opening of the NH-51 for the transport of coal, which has remained suspended due to the collapse of the bridge at Krishnai in Goalpara.
“Since the collapse of the bridge, coal transporters have been facing problems. We requested the Chief Minister to allow coal transport through the NH-51,” said general secretary of the Nokma welfare body Rakesh Marak.
