|2 Manipur doctors, nurse test positive|
IMPHAL, June 22 - With the total number of COVID-19 cases increasing day by day, three frontline workers, i.e., two doctors and a nurse also tested positive for COVID-19 for the first time in a district hospital in Manipur, official sources said.
Confirming this, Dr L Gojendro, Chief Medical Officer of Bishnupur district said their samples were collected on June 19 and the report was available on the night of June 21.
Stating that the positive staff of the district hospital who are asymptomatic, have been transferred to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences for further management, he said
“We are in the process of investigating the source of infection. The possibility of infection from outside the hospital before they were put to duty is also being investigated.”
The CMO also informed that all the staff on duty are kept in isolation in the district hospital premises itself, adding that they were to be sent home at the end of 7 days for a week of home quarantine.
So far, samples from 13 staff of the district hospital have been tested for COVID-19 and 21 other staff involved in sample collection and screening have also been tested.
It may be mentioned here that the district hospital at Bishnupur was converted into a COVID-19 ward on June 8 when 34 inmates of Diligent High School of Moirang became positive for COVID-19.
With the 57 new cases, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Manipur has increased to 898, while the total number of active cases is 648, according to the state health officials in Imphal today.
Though there is no community transmission in the state, so far 5 new positive cases, including 3 health workers without travel history were reported in the state.
Till today, 38,286 were tested for Covid-19, another official source added. Altogether, 24,509 inmates were staying at quarantine centres, including paid quarantine centres, while 27,774 others completed quarantine.
