SIVASAGAR, June 22 – The 13th death anniversary of Parag Chaliha was observed at Sivasagar Natya Mandir on Thursday.Speaking at a function, organised by the Seuj Konwar Parag Chaliha Smriti Rakhya Samity in association with Sivasagar Natya Samaj, noted educationist Hapun Duwara said that Chaliha was a multi-faceted personality whose identity could be felt in every sphere of life.
“Chaliha recommended that education on vocational stream should be introduced in high school stage, and now the State Government will soon impart vocational education in high school level,” said Duwara.
Duwara said that Chaliha’s sense of responsibility to the society was revealed in all his activities.
Earlier, the artistes of Sivasagar Akhanda Mandali organised a prayer meeting which was followed by lighting of lamp by Lakhipriya Bordoloi and floral tribute paid by Dipali Chaliha and Sivasagar DC Jatindra Lahkar.
People were enthralled by a number of dance and song presentations by artistes of Mou Mel, Binapani Sangeet Vidyalay, Sivasagar Ntya Samaj, Seujia Samaj Sangeet Mahavidyalay and Ujjalata Sanskritik Kendra. The famous Jaapi Nritya was also presented on the occasion .
Arup Narayan Sharma hosted the function, while Sourav Chaliha, son of Parag Chaliha offered the vote of thanks. He also announced the name of the recipient of Parag Chaliha Memorial Scholarship Award for the year 2012 which comprises Rs 3,000 and a certificate. The award will be given to Priyanka Kalita at Rabindra Bhavan in Guwahati.
