Udalguri attains open defecation free status

 UDALGURI, June 20 - Moving towards the goal of total sanitation and cleanliness, the Udalguri Municipal Board, in a notification issued today, informed that Udalguri town has attained the open defecation free (ODF) status under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

The notification issued by Ripen Daimari, chairman of the Municipal Board, appealed to all concerned of the town not to defecate and urinate in open and warned that if anyone found defecating and urinating in open would be punished and a fine amounting Rs 500 would be imposed.

The notification further instructed people not to litter, spit on public places, roads, parks, bylanes, drains and water bodies and to preserve water bodies and keep such sources clean. The Municipal Board also appealed to the citizens to use segregated dustbins which have been allotted at many public places. It also appealed to all concerned to avoid polythene carry bags and use biodegradable paper bags instead.
