RFRI to prepare DPR for rejuvenation of Brahmaputra

 JORHAT, June 20 - The Rain Forest Research Institute (RFRI) on the Sotai here, organized the first meeting on preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) for rejuvenation of the Brahmaputra through forestry interventions.

A RFRI press note stated that RFRI, Jorhat, a constituent of Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), Dehradun has been given the responsibility to prepare Detailed Project Report (DPR) for rejuvenation of Brahmaputra.

The note said that senior Forest department officers from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Manipur; Officers of Brahmaputra Board, academicians from Dibrugarh University, Gauhati University, Tezpur University and scientists from premier institutes participated in the meeting.

Dr RSC Jayaraj, Director, RFRI, Jorhat welcomed the gathering and spoke about the purpose of convening the meeting. He appealed to the stakeholders to contribute towards preparation of DPR.

Dr DJ Das, scientist and coordinator of the project gave a detailed presentation on Ganga DPR as an example and illustrated various activities to be done for Brahmaputra DPR, the note mentioned.

It is worth mentioning here that Forest Research Institute, Dehradun had prepared a Detailed Project Report (Forestry Interventions) for Ganga in 2016 under aegis of Namami Ganga Programme of Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation.

During the day-long deliberation, the participants discussed various issues related to Brahmaputra and its tributaries, the note said.

The initiative has resulted in preparation of a comprehensive framework for preparation of a DPR on forestry interventions in rejuvenation and overall management of the river Brahmaputra
